The band has just finished recording new material with producer MICHAEL DEMING (Lilys, Beachwood Sparks, Pernice Brothers, Butterflies of Love) at Studio .45 in Hartford, Connecticut. Their full-length album should be available in the Summer of 2004.

PROVAN's 1999 debut EP Act Like You've Been There Before represented the spirit of a band of wit and intelligence perfecting the three-minute pop song. Their 2002 follow-up EP The Conquering Pain Act demonstrated a band no less committed to their craft, but looking to deliver the goods on a much more visceral level.

PROVAN's bright, disjointed guitar interplay recalls the likes of Television, Spoon and Mission of Burma, while their crisp, pop melodies may bring to mind Guided by Voices or Teenage Fanclub. The band's lyrics are impressionistic, comparable to the pop-lyrics of Brian Eno or the beat writings of William Burroughs, yet their emotive delivery is surprisingly straight-forward and accessible.

PROVAN performs consistently in and around New York City at clubs like Luna Lounge,  CB's Lounge and the Mercury Lounge, and at local universities. PROVAN have been heard on WLIR and WNYC radio in New York and WFMU and WPSC radio in New Jersey. Their current line-up includes:

Joe Kelly: (Guitar/Vocals) Joe previously played bass with Hoboken's indier-than-thou VERTICAL 8, featuring members of Merge recording artists SPENT and FRICTION WHEEL.

Bill Lutz: (Guitar/Vocals) Bill has fronted NYC hardcore bands MUTTONHEAD and CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, as well as the pop-core SENOR ZERO.

Marc Bendian: (Bass/Vocals) Marc most recently played guitar with Philadelphia's THOUSAND YEAR EGG, bass with Philly alt-country favorites WOBBLY, and guitar with power-pop stalwarts BUZZ ZEEMER.

Colin Devine: (Drums) Colin has played drums with New York's CONFORMISTS, a band once derided by They Might Be Giants fans after a Bowery Ballroom gig as "looking like models" and "rocking a little too hard."  Colin currently moonlights in THE HUNTING PARTY.
